The Twelfth Night

Centered in the story of Shakespeare's ‘The Twelfth Night’, Ruby’s character design for the character of Olivia is seeped in a mediterranean re-interpretation of the tale. Based in Sicily during the Italian unification, her designs utilize burnt ochres, rich tones and the historical soldiers' uniforms of the multiple warring factions of the unification. Olivia’s costume mirrors her bold and forward personality in a sunset orange fabric that flourishes under the southern sun; with a historically accurate Regency silhouette and colorful screenprint and embroidery drawn by hand: the costume stands strong just like its character. Invisible underneath the outer gown, are hand-made regency stays, that help maintain the lifted look the silhouette requires. This costume comes together to represent the elegance and personality of Olivia, which, in a story with so much mischief and trickery, separates her from the rest.
